BGP is proud to have played its part in one adding to one of the most loved and visited attractions within the North East. The scheme involved the recreation of Grand cinema, from Ryhope, in Sunderland; a toy shop named after Romer Parrish in Middlesbrough; A Reece Ltd Radio and Electrical Services electrical and record shop; STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) learning space and a milk bar.
This addition is part of a wider redevelopment at the North East museum forming an entire 1950’s village, which is the largest capital development in the museum’s history.
Further to this, is the Georgian Drovers Tavern and Pottery, as well as two Georgian-themed self-catering cottages where visitors will be able to stay overnight.
The cinema and shops buildings are a new steel framed structure with metal deck floors clad with traditional materials so that only the trusses within the auditorium are exposed, as was a feature of the original cinema. Every other feature within the buildings has been meticulously researched, designed and installed to provide authenticity.
